Students, professionals and community members are encouraged to submit proposals for a 60 minute break-out session or for a performance/artistic entertainment programming.

 Do not miss this opportunity to submit a program proposal for the second Southeast Asian American Access in Education (SEAeD) Education Summit at South Seattle College! The 2014 conference offers participants from South King County and the greater Washington state including middle school, high school and college students, parents, families, community members, educators, professionals and supporters. The conference is an opportunity to learn and engage in dialogue about Southeast Asian American youth and access to education in our region.

Notification of Program Submission Status: September 2014
Presenters required to register for the conference: September 30, 2014

Present A Program at SEAeD’s Education Summit!

Students, professionals and community members are encouraged to submit proposals for a 60 minute break-out session or for a performance/artistic entertainment programming.

You will need the following information when completing the online form:

  • Presenter name(s), title(s), and bio(s) and the contact information for the coordinating presenter.
  • The program type and intended audience (middle school, high school and college students, parents families, community members, educators, professionals and supporters).
  • A 50 word abstract, a facilitation guide with: workshop goals, learning objectives, an outline of the workshop, and a description of how the workshop fits into this year’s theme – Our Communities, Our Voices (advocacy, bridging identities and leadership).
  • Confirmation that all presenters will register for the conference. All presenters are required to register for the conference by September 30, 2014.

Break-Out Sessions:

Sessions are 60 minutes in length that focus on one of four areas. Please remember we have multi-level audience types from the Southeast Asian communities and supporters (students, parents & families, educators and community members). The selection committee is looking for a diverse pool of workshops/presenters for 2 break-out sessions with individual 5 workshops during each break-out session. The four focus areas for this year’s conference sessions are:

  • Ethnic, Racial and Cultural Sensitivity: These workshops will involve Awareness building related to race, ethnicity, generational, age, identities, culture and understanding of identity development process. Ie. building pride in self-identity, educating educators on SEAA identities, history, culture & context.
  • Educational Advocacy, Equity & Social Justice: These workshops focus on issues related to educational and institutional change and inequalities, community, student and leadership empowerment, issues affecting SEAA communities, socio economic justice, critical issues that leaders must consider and face in the 21st century in our schools. Examples include experiential exercises on diversity and social justice, self-reflection and personal values.
  • K12 – Higher Education Pipelines & Beyond: These workshops focus on access and pre-college preparatory programs with emphasis on cradle-to-college and beyond. The intent is to provide awareness on career exploration for both parents and students as well as provide resources to interagency networks, programs and support services.
  • Personal Leadership Development: These workshops focus on developing practical knowledge and skills to enhance a participant’s leadership ability, this includes best leadership practices, Issues in leadership, health and wellness issues related to mind, body and soul, academic success, time-management, facilitation, motivating others, recruiting members, resume/portfolio creation, etc.

Performance/ Artistic Entertainment

We are seeking anyone with talent in traditional and contemporary dancing, singing, spoken word, and or a fusion of artistic persons to perform at our next summit.
